Metal or Wooden Curtain Pole: Which is Right for You?

Choosing the perfect curtain pole can dramatically transform the look and feel of a room, and add an air of style and sophistication to your space.  One of the first things to consider is which material is best for your requirements.  To help you decide which is best for you to achieve your desired look, we’ve pulled together this blog post to help you find the right solution for your requirements. Join us as we explore the main benefits of metal and wooden curtain poles and the key considerations when choosing your curtain pole.

Metal or Wooden Curtain Pole: Which is Right for You?

Factors to Consider

  • Decor Style: Consider the overall style of your room. Metal curtain poles often complement more modern interiors, while wooden poles lend themselves well to traditional, rustic, or classic styles.  Wider diameters are available in wooden poles (up to 63mm) and work really well over larger windows, and in larger rooms particularly with tall ceilings.
  • Curtain Heading: Which curtain heading have you opted for? Have you chosen a timeless, classic heading such as a double or triple pinch pleat curtain, or chosen a more contemporary eyelet heading? Wooden curtain poles complement traditional headings beautifully and work particularly well with rich fabrics and opulent interlined curtains.  A metal curtain pole is however better suited to eyelet curtains for a smoother draw.  Wooden and metal curtain poles work equally well for pencil pleat or gathered headed curtains.
  • Curtain Weight: on each curtain pole page on the product specification tab we have a weight guidance for the pole you are considering so please check this before purchasing.  If your curtains are on the heavy side and you are concerned about the weight, we can supply passing brackets on some metal curtain pole ranges to offer extra support along the poles.  These would need to be used in conjunction with passing rings so the curtain will passover the supporting bracket (passing brackets are not compatible with eyelet curtains).  Please ensure you use the correct fixings for your wall substrate.
  • Budget: we are proud to cater for all budgets both in our metal and wooden curtain pole ranges.
  • Personal Preference: Ultimately, the best choice is the one you love. Consider which material and style of pole appeals to you most and complements your personal style.
