Silent Gliss Metropole

Silent Gliss Metropole looks like a curtain pole but features an internal gliding channel, offering the functionality and benefits of a curtain track.  The range balances quality and functionality, with design to offer a timeless and elegant window solution.  Metropole is available in 3 round profiles; 23mm (hand operated), 30mm (hand operated or corded) and 50mm (hand operated, corded or motorised), and a rectangular profile (36mm hand operated) Metroflat.  View the Metropole brochure here. Please view our blog post for more information on the Metropole collection.

Silent Gliss 23mm Metropole with Spear Finials

The 23mm Metropole is available in a choice of 7 contemporary colours, from striking metallics to muted and neutral shades, with a range of finial styles to choose from to suit contemporary, traditional and blended interior design styles.  The 23mm diameter is ideal for voiles, nets or lightweight curtains.  This Metropole is supplied with traditional spear style finials that flow seamlessly from the track profile for a stylised finish.

Ideal for Extra Wide Windows, Bi-Fold and Sliding Doors

As the brackets fix from the top of the track the Metropole tracks are ideal for extra wide windows, bi-fold or sliding doors as the curtains can run smoothly along the complete length of the pole.  A single curtain can draw from one side to the other without any interference from any brackets.  The Metropole tracks are available up to 6m (except for chrome that is only available up to 4m) as a single piece.  2 pieces can be joined together with a connecting bridge if you have an extra wide requirement.

Bracket Options

Metropoles can be wall or ceiling fixed.  A ceiling mounted Metropole will blend with the architecture of the room giving the curtains maximum impact.  If ceiling fixing there is a choice of the ceiling hanger or top fix bracket to ensure room for the finials.

For wall fixing these Metropole tracks are supplied with the smart fix wall brackets as standard.  These are available with a 60mm (this is the standard for standard gliders), 80mm (standard for 60mm wave gliders) and 100mm projection (standard for 80mm wave gliders).  We also offer the option of upgrading to the square smart fix brackets.  This is a popular choice as the square smart fix brackets are more discreet.  If you order the tracks for a pair of curtains we will supply 2 standard smart fix brackets (one for each end of the track) as these will be concealed by the curtains.  The rest of the brackets will be square smart fix ones.  For a single curtain one standard smart fix bracket will be supplied (for the end of the track) and the rest will be square smart fix.

Fillet style wall fix brackets are also available offering a contemporary option.

The Silent Gliss brackets are supplied with colour-matched magnetic covers for a stylish finish.  Please see the bracket tab for more information on the bracket options.

Glider Options

All Silent Gliss gliders are manufactured using 2 components – a soft component to reduce noise and a hard component for stability.  The standard (2C) gliders are suitable for pencil, gathered, pinch pleat or Swiss pleat curtains.  60mm or 80mm wave gliders are required for wave curtains.

Suitable for Bay Windows

Metropoles can be bent for a bay or L shaped window.  We do need to bend the tracks for you in the factory as they can’t be bent by hand.  For wall fixing the tracks are supplied with the adjustable smart fix brackets as standard. Max Length: 600cm. If you require longer Metropoles please order 2 tracks and a connecting piece (found under accessories at the bottom of the product page).

Hand drawn or corded: this Metropole is hand drawn.  If you would like a corded Metropole please consider the 30mm Metropole range.

Brackets Wall Fixing: these Metropole tracks are supplied with the smart fix wall brackets as standard.

The Smart Fix brackets are available with the following projections:

60mm – this is the standard bracket for standard 2C gliders

80mm – this is the standard bracket for 60mm wave gliders

100mm – this is the standard bracket for 80mm wave gliders

If you need the track to project further away from the wall the website will give you the option to upgrade to the 80mm or 100mm smart fix brackets.

Square smart fix brackets: we offer the option of upgrading to the square smart fix brackets.  This is a popular choice as the square smart fix brackets are more discreet than the standard brackets.  If you order the tracks for a pair of curtains we will supply 2 standard smart fix brackets (one for each end of the track) as these will be concealed by the curtains.  The rest of the brackets will be square smart fix ones.  For a single curtain one standard smart fix bracket will be supplied (for the end of the track) and the rest will be square smart fix.

16 2C (11301) gliders per metre are supplied with this track as standard.  You can add more gliders if required.  If ordering wave gliders the correct number of wave gliders will be supplied for your track length.

Metropole tracks are compatible with the Silent Gliss Swiss Pleat curtain heading style.  The Swiss Pleat curtain heading is a simple curtain heading that delivers a relaxed look.  If space is limited (depth wise) it may be worth considering as it is a slimmer curtain heading to the Wave style.  Please note due to the construction of the Swiss Pleat curtains we cannot put a lining on the fabrics.

Curtain Tracks

The Swiss pleat curtains will come with Silent Gliss 2C gliders sewn into the curtain heading.  It is advisable to order a Silent Gliss track at the same time as ordering the curtains (as the track will be supplied without the gliders on).  Please ensure the track length matches the track / pole width when ordering the curtains.

Please note: if you are recess fitting the tracks to fit wall to wall, or ceiling recess fitting, we would recommend waiting until you have received your curtains before installing your track.  You will need access to the end of the track to feed the gliders and curtains onto the track.

Layering:

The Swiss Pleat works well in a voile / sheer fabric layered behind a wave curtain.

A popular option is a voile / sheer featured on a 23mm Metropole with flush end caps positioned behind a 30mm Metropole for the main curtain.

How to order:

Ceiling Fitting: please order 2 tracks and position one in front of the other.

Wall Fitting with Metropoles: please order 2 Metropoles with the 3mm top fix plate.  In addition you will require the wall fix Universal smart fix bracket.  These are only available in white and silver.

To work out how many brackets you will require the formula is: track length divided by 67, rounded up and add 1.  So for example on a track length of 250cm you will receive 5 brackets (250/67 rounded up +1).

Metropole Measuring Guide:

Decide where the Metropole is to be positioned.  This is usually above the window with the pole extending either side beyond the window.

Step 1: Measure the width of your window.

Step 2: The chart below provides guidance for making an allowance either side of your window for your curtain stack (shown as ‘B’ on the diagram above).  This is particularly important if you want the curtains to clear the glazing when open.  Please note the curtain heading, fabric thickness and lining specification will affect the width of the stack back.  How much you would like the curtains to clear the window is down to personal preference.  The chart below is however a good guide.

Step 3: Add the width of your window onto the B measurement (x2 for a pair of curtains) to give you a finished Metropole length (A).

Please note this is just a guide.  All Metropoles are made to your exact sizes at no extra cost.

Recess Fitting

If you are fitting your Metropole wall to wall or within a recess we recommend you take the wall to wall measurement and deduct 1cm to ensure the track can be fitted easily within the recess.

Wave Curtains

If you are opting for a wave curtain the stack back is a mathematical calculation. A curtain stacks back 18cm per metre of curtain track with an 80mm wave heading, and 23cm per metre of track with a 60mm wave heading.

Please see the example below:

On a 3m track for a pair of curtains with an 80mm wave the stack back will be 3m x 18cm = 54cm / 2 = 27cm each side.

For a single curtain the curtain will stack 54cm one side.

On a 3m track for a pair of curtains with a 60mm wave the stack back will be 3m x 23cm = 69cm / 2 = 34.5cm each side.

For a single curtain the curtain will stack 69cm one side.

Wave curtains are particularly popular over bi-fold or sliding doors or over large expanses of floor to ceiling glass. If there is wall space to the side of the glazing the track length can be worked out so the curtain neatly sits on the side wall(s) clearing the glazing to allow the light to flood into your room.
