Blindspace – Skylight Box Profiles (New 2022 profile)

Designed to Disappear

Blindspace skylight system to conceal roller and cellular blinds in a skylight. The unique Blindspace design provides millimetre precision and a better finished aesthetic than traditional building methods whilst saving you time in both design and installation.

The hidden space inside the skylight can be prepared for electric blinds and accessed for blind installation when construction work is completed. From the smallest roof window to the largest skylights, our solutions are made to make any blind disappear.

Please check the required box dimensions with your blind supplier before ordering.  We can also quote for the supply of your blinds if this is required.

Multiple Configurations

Skylight blinds are concealed in either of the following ways using Blindspace skylight boxes.

  • Concealed within a skylight structure.
  • Concealed underneath a skylight structure.

 Standard S Series

Blindspace S Series is new for 2022. It features the patented Blindspace Safety Hinge that secures the cover in place and can be installed in any direction, allowing for side boxes to hide blind side channels or guide wires. Popular in floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors, S Series can be installed to future-proof buildings to have the option for later installation of concealed blinds.

Features and Benefits

RAL Colour matching

All Blindspace skylight profiles can be primed and painted on site, alternatively we can offer a colour matching service  to any RAL reference.  Either the entire box or just the hinged cover plate can be colour matched.  In most instances if the box is being fully recessed, it will only be the hinged cover plate that would need to be colour matched.  Both options are available when you specify the product above.  For the majority of colours a powder coating process is used, however for some special colours that are not available in powder coat, a durable wet spray paint will be applied.  The Standard profiles are supplied in RAL 9003 30% gloss.

Our prices are for a fully made to measure specification cut to your exact specification.  If you want to save on the BlindSpace cut to size charge then order in 600cm lengths.  All our prices include end caps as standard.

Measuring Guide

When providing dimensions for a skylight, the dimensions you provide could either be:

  1. The finished internal dimensions of the aperture which is ready for the box to be installed.
  2. The dimensions you have calculated based on the required opening size – then your carpenters will build the aperture to fit the boxes on site.

We would recommend option 1, as we can manufacture the system exactly to your finished aperture.

Measuring an aperture

We advise you take three measurements across the width and three along the length (either end and centre) and then use the smaller of the three measurements.  It is important that the box is built square or you could face issues when fitting your blind. When we manufacture the boxes, we will make a 3mm deduction from your recess dimensions on each side to allow for fitting.

Calculating dimensions from the required opening

Please refer to the illustrations below for the 100×100, 130×130 and 130×150 box sizes.

100×100 top box with 100×50 side channels

130×130 top box with 130×50 side channels

130×150 top box with 130×50 side channels

Referring to the the illustrations, you take the opening dimensions, then add the box dimensions plus a 3mm fitting allowance for each side.

For example for the 130×130 box, to the opening width you add a total of 106mm (50+50+3+3) and to the opening length you add 266mm (130+130+3+3).

The resulting dimensions can then be used as your aperture dimensions to order the product.

Sizes and Technical Drawings

The size of the Blindspace box required depends on the type and size of the blinds to be fitted. The larger the glazing area and blind, the more space is needed to hide the blinds. As a general rule, a bigger box also allows for more options and easier installation.

Due to the tension boxes required for skylight roller blinds, Blindspace recommend that the new 130×130 or 130×150 boxes are used. Fitting inside the 100×100 is possible for smaller blinds, but can be tight.

The largest length of a single blind fitted within a 100×100 box is 2.5m. The largest length of a single blind fitted within a 110×130 box is 3.5m.

Due to the increased stack on cellular blinds (when the blinds are fully opened), for longer drops we recommend the 110×130 box profile.  This should ensure the hembar remains concealed.

Our online configurator will automatically specify the correct side channels for the top box size selected.
