Client Brief
Our client approached us for some help in pulling together a room scheme for their reconfigured lounge project. The client’s lounge was originally a rectangular shape before they put up an internal wall to make the room more square and provide a cosy ’snug’ living room. The vision was to create a luxurious cosy space. Existing light fittings, furniture and rug were to remain so we needed to pull together a room scheme that would work cohesively with these items.
Wallpaper Selection
To create a focal statement look, we suggested adding a wallpaper to one wall. After sampling a few designs, our client chose the Harlequin Colour 3 Coral wallpaper in Midnight. This wide width design showcases a delicate shimmer which creates luxurious depth and texture. The rose gold background also beautifully complements the client’s existing lighting.
Paint Choice
To complement the wallpaper, we recommended 3 neutral paint tones for the remainder of the room: Little Greene’s Hammock (38), Clay (39) and Mushroom (142). These are all very close on the Little Greene Colours of England paint scale and coordinate beautifully whilst allowing the wallpaper design to take centre stage. After some consideration, our client opted for the Little Greene mushroom paint for the other walls.
Blind Solution
For the glazing in the lounge, we discussed various window dressing ideas with the client. Due to the position of the sofa, it left little room for curtains so we recommended roman blinds. To maximise the light into the room and to enable the client to use the windowsill for decorative items, the client preferred the blinds to sit outside the window recess. We, therefore, showed them the roman blind pelmet boxes which the client loved to give a finished, polished look to the blinds.
As our client already has some other motorised items in their home, we specified a battery operated, motorised, roman blind headrail system for their lounge project that integrates with their existing Somfy Ta’Homa hub. This enables them to operate their blinds from an App on their phone. As the living room is on the front of the house, our client set their blinds to open at 7:30am and close half an hour after sunset. Motorised curtains, tracks and blinds are a great way to increase security in your home and there is great flexibility in settings on the Somfy Ta’Homa app.
Fabric Choice
To create a luxurious feel, the client chose the stunning Temperley London x Romo Frieda velvet for their blinds in the slate colour way. A dense, plain fabric with rich texture, the Frieda velvet brings softness and indulgence to the space without detracting from the feature wall. The blind was finished beautifully with the Temperley London x Romo Leopard Velvet Braid in Umber, reflecting the design in the wallpaper.
To complete the look, our client also opted for some coordinating cushions using the Frieda velvet in Kohl, trimmed with the Temperley London x Romo Brushed Fringe in Serandite. These exude style and texture whilst adding an air of cosiness and comfort to the room scheme.
Overview
Our client was delighted with the end result. By adding various elements of colour and texture through wallpaper, paint and soft furnishings, they were able to create a cosy and luxurious retreat that is both practical and stylish.
