Swiss Pleat Single Pleat Curtains
Silent Gliss fabrics can be made up into beautiful wave curtains, or if you are looking for a less uniform curtain heading you may wish to consider the Swiss Pleat curtain heading style. This simple curtain heading delivers a relaxed, floaty look. If space is limited (depth wise from the front to the back of the curtains) it may be worth considering as it is a slimmer curtain heading style to wave curtains.
Swiss Pleat curtains are made by sewing a pleat into the top of the curtain. This can either be a single pleat that delivers a 1.5 fullness, or a double pleat that delivers a fuller curtain. From the front a single and double pleat visually look very similar as the extra pleat is sewn inside the first pleat. More fabric is used to make-up a double pleat to deliver a fuller look. Please note a double pleat will increase the stack back of your curtains when open. If you decide upon a double pleat and would like the curtains to clear the glazing when open, you may need to extend your track length.
The curtains come with the gliders sewn into the top of the curtains so they are ready to hang on the track.
Please read our Blog post or watch our YouTube video that explains the Swiss Pleat heading style in more detail in more detail.
Please note the Swiss Pleat curtain heading can only be made up using Silent Gliss fabrics. Read our Silent Gliss fabric collection blog post for more information on their fabric range. As the Silent Gliss 2C gliders are sewn into the top of the curtain they are only compatible with Silent Gliss curtain tracks that use the 2C gliders. Please refer to the Swiss Pleat Curtains tab on the fabric pages for suitable tracks.
Why Choose Swiss Pleat Curtains?

- Suitable for all curtain widths and room heights
- Can be made into a long continuous curtain without any joins
- Ideal for layering behind a wave curtain
Calculating your curtain width:
Your curtains will be made to fit your curtain track length, so please specify this in the ‘track length’ box above.
Please state all measurements in cm.
Calculating your curtain drop:
The curtain drop is simply the measurement from the very top of the curtain to the bottom of the lowest hem (bottom of the curtain). This measurement will however vary depending on how you are fixing your track (ceiling or wall fixing) and the length you want the curtains to fall (floor length, sill length etc.)
Please note the Swiss Pleat curtains sit underneath the track.
How to measure your curtain drop:
Firstly, decide on where you would like your curtains to fall, (floor length, sill length etc.) this provides your bottom hem position.
We advise you take your measurements in 3 places. Please take a left, right and centre measurement. If they vary up to 1.5cm we suggest you input the shortest measurement on your order.
If the measurements vary more than 1.5cm it will be down to personal preference with regards to the measurement you supply for the finished drop of your curtains. If you go with the shortest measurement you will end up with a bigger gap at the longest side. If you go with an average measurement the curtains may touch the floor on the shortest side.
For floor length curtains:
Ceiling fixing with the track installed: please measure from the bottom of the track to the floor and deduct 1cm off this measurement if you’d like the curtains to clear the floor or add 5cm if you would like the fabric to pool slightly on the floor. Pooling is only recommended for lightweight curtains on hand drawn tracks. If you are hanging your curtains on a corded or motorised track we recommend the curtains sit just off the floor so they don’t put any strain on the cords or motor.
Please enter your preferred drop measurement in the curtain drop box.
Ceiling fixing and the track hasn’t been installed: please take the ceiling to floor measurement and deduct the track profile measurement from this (this can be found on the track pages in the gallery images).
Deduct 1cm off this measurement if you’d like the curtains to clear the floor or add 5cm if you would like the fabric to pool slightly on the floor.
Wall fixing with the track installed:
Measure from the bottom of the track to the floor and deduct 1cm off this measurement if you’d like the curtains to clear the floor or add 5cm if you would like the fabric to pool slightly on the floor.
Wall fixing and the track hasn’t been installed: firstly, decide on the height that you would like the top of the curtains to finish. Swiss Pleat curtains will sit underneath the track.
Please take the measurement from the top of where you want the curtains to sit to the finished length. Enter this measurement in the curtain drop box.
Please note: if the wall fix track has not been fitted, we only recommend you order your curtains if you have room for adjusting the track height so the curtains fit perfectly. If you are wall fixing and space is very limited, we would recommend that you install the track first and then supply the curtain drop measurement.
For sill length curtains:
if you want your curtains to fall sill length, please follow the instructions above but measure to the windowsill instead of the floor.
For all other curtain lengths:
Please follow the instructions above but measure to where you want your curtains to finish. Please note you do not need to deduct the 1cm which is required for floor and sill clearance.
Swiss Pleat Curtains can only be made with Silent Gliss fabrics. Please refer to our blog post on the Silent Gliss Fabric Collection.
