Gathered Heading Curtains

Gathered heading curtains can also be referred to as cottage pleat curtains.  They are similar in makeup to a pencil pleat but used a much narrower heading tape to create a rough gathered effect rather than neat pencil pleats. This is one of the most simple headings, however due to the narrow heading tape used, is best suited to smaller windows or shorter curtain drops.  This is why this curtain heading is sometimes referred to as cottage pleat.  The heading tape needs to be gathered to your required width by pulling the draw strings in the curtain tape.

The next stage will be to specify your requirements for linings and interlinings and then add the finishing touches, such as trimmings or co-ordinated fabric holdbacks.

Calculating your curtain width:

Your curtains will be made to fit your curtain track or pole length, so please specify this in the ‘track / pole length’ box above.

Please state all measurements in cm.

Calculating your curtain drop:

The curtain drop is simply the measurement from the very top of the curtain to the bottom of the lowest hem (bottom of the curtain).  This measurement will however vary depending on how you are fixing your track (ceiling or wall fixing) and the length you want the curtains to fall (floor length, sill length etc.)

How to measure your curtain drop:

Firstly, decide on where you would like your curtains to fall, (floor length, sill length etc.) this provides your bottom hem position.

We advise you take your measurements in 3 places.  Please take a left, right and centre measurement.  If they vary up to 1.5cm we suggest you input the shortest measurement on your order.

If the measurements vary more than 1.5cm it will be down to personal preference with regards to the measurement you supply for the finished drop of your curtains.  If you go with the shortest measurement you will end up with a bigger gap at the longest side.  If you go with an average measurement the curtains may touch the floor on the shortest side.

For floor length curtains:

Ceiling fixing with the track installed: please measure from the bottom of the track or the bottom of the curtain pole to the floor and deduct 1cm off this measurement for floor clearance, or add 5cm if you would like the fabric to pool slightly on the floor.  Please enter this measurement in the curtain drop box.

Wall fixing with the track or pole installed: please measure from the bottom of the track or pole to the floor and deduct 1cm off this measurement for floor clearance, or add 5cm if you would like the fabric to pool slightly on the floor.  Please enter this measurement in the curtain drop box.

Wall fixing and the track or pole hasn’t been installed: firstly, decide on the height that you would like the top of the curtains to start.

Please take the measurement from the top of where you want the curtains to start to the position you want the curtains to fall.  If floor length deduct 1cm off this measurement for floor clearance, or add 5cm if you would like the fabric to pool slightly on the floor. Please enter this measurement in the curtain drop box.

Please note: if the wall fix track or pole has not been fitted, we only recommend you order your curtains if you have room for adjusting the track or pole height so the curtains fit perfectly. If you are wall fixing and space is very limited, we would recommend that you install the track or pole first and then supply the curtain drop measurement.

For sill length curtains: 

if you want your curtains to fall sill length, please follow the instructions above but measure to the windowsill instead of the floor, don’t forget to deduct your 1cm for sill clearance if you want the curtains sitting above the sill.

For all other curtain lengths:

Please follow the instructions above but measure to where you want your curtains to finish.  Please note you do not need to deduct the 1cm which is required for floor and sill clearance.

    The leadtimes vary depending on the product ordered.  Please refer to the Leadtime on the product specification tab for information on the particular product you are looking at.  If the product is available on  a ’Next working day’ service this applies to all orders received up to 6pm.  Please note there is a 4pm cut off for any Jones products.  Any orders placed over the weekend will be dispatched on the Monday for delivery to you on the Tuesday.

    Please note the next working day service is subject to stock availability.  If there are any stock shortages we will notify you immediately and work with you to find a suitable solution to meet your requirements. If you don’t want delivery the next day please call us on 01590 615775 to place your order over the phone and we and we can set up delivery for your nominated day.

    Whilst we will endeavour to fulfil our delivery promises once the goods leave our warehouse we do rely on 3rd parties to fulfil their obligations.  We therefore recommend that a fitter isn’t booked until the goods are safely in your hands and have been checked for damage and any missing items.  We cannot be held responsible for any fitter cancellations.

    We hope that you are delighted with your purchase.  To reduce the likelihood of having to return a product, we do recommend paint sample pots, wallpaper and fabric swatches are ordered prior to ordering the full sized items.  We can also send out ring samples, colour toggles or off cuts of curtain poles / tracks to ensure the colour is right before you commit to order.  Please email to request a sample.  Please note made to order / measure / cut to size curtain poles and tracks cannot be returned or exchanged unless faulty.  Please also note that Little Greene paint products are bespoke and therefore tinted to order. Unfortunately we are therefore unable to accept any returns on Little Greene paint orders.

    For any standard products not listed above, in the event that you would like to return your goods we accept returns within 30 days of delivery.

    There is an £20 collection charge to return curtain pole or curtain track orders. We appreciate this is a lot of money but this is what our couriers charge us. Curtain poles and tracks are classified as ‘oversized’ items and so they incur a premium for handling long parcels.

    If you would like to return curtain pole accessories or curtain track spare parts these can be returned by Royal Mail or a carrier of your choice.  Please return smaller items to: The Home Of Interiors, The Design Hub, 41 Brookley Road, Brockenhurst, Hampshire, SO42 7RB.

    To return and obtain a refund (excluding delivery costs) please email us at or give us a call us on 01590 615775. We will then contact you to organise the collection / return. Failure to notify us may result in no refund or an additional cost to forward your returned item/s to the correct address.

    Any products you return will be at your own cost and the goods must be in the same condition which they were received.  The goods must be in their original packaging.  The goods are your responsibility until they reach us so please make sure any returned items are very well packaged to avoid damage while in transit. Please ensure the returns reference, which will have been emailed to you, is clearly marked on the outside of the parcel.  We recommend you use the outer packaging the goods were delivered in.

    If on receipt of the goods we inspect them and conclude that they are not in the same condition they were sent out in we will not be able to provide a refund. We will notify you if this is the case.

    The refund, minus the original delivery charge and minus the collection charge, is usually actioned within a week of the items being returned but it can take up to 30 days. The refund will be made back to the account that the original purchase was made from.
