Project Details
We were delighted to receive some beautiful photos sent in from a customer showcasing their creative DIY furnishing solutions using a stunning design from our extensive fabric range. The client ordered fabric by the metre and used it to cover their sofa, transforming it into a decorative accent piece! The fabric was also used to make some co-ordinating cushions, beautifully layered on top to complete the look.

Fabric Choice
The client opted for the magnificent Voyage Maison Midnight Reflections Roseum fabric in the Moonstone colour way. This romantic, hand-painted floral design captures the ethereal elegance of a midnight garden. Available by the metre, this fabric is suitable for curtains, blinds and cushions, making it the perfect choice for an array of home interior projects.
Why Choose Fabric by the Metre?
Whether you’re a seasoned seamstress or a curious beginner looking to embark on your own DIY project, purchasing fabric by the metre opens up a universe of creative possibilities. From the perfect bespoke cushion or tablecloth, to a stunning window dressing, it enables you to embrace the freedom that comes with choosing exactly how much fabric you need. Discover the benefits below:
- Ultimate Control: fabric by the metre allows you to decide the exact quantity you need for your project, minimising waste and ensuring you have enough (but not too much!).
- Cost-Effective: Buying only what you need and creating your own furnishings can be significantly more budget-friendly as opposed to professional, made to measure services.
- Endless Variety: We are delighted to offer an extensive choice of fabrics from some of the top fabric houses, most of which are available to purchase by the metre. From luxurious velvets to vibrant cottons and durable linens, the sky is the limit. You can explore different textures, patterns and colours to perfectly match your vision.
- Perfect for Unique Projects: Whether you’re crafting a non-standard sized tablecloth or designing unique home décor, fabric by the metre allows you to tailor your materials precisely to your specifications.
- Sustainable Choice: By buying only what you require, you contribute to reducing textile waste, making it a more environmentally conscious option.
Tips & Considerations
When purchasing fabric by the metre, it’s important to know your project and have a clear idea of what you want to make. This will help you determine the type of fabric, required quantity and specific fabric properties you may require. For example, if you’re making your own wave curtains, you will need to choose a suitable fabric that will hold the wave shape. Learn more here. We would also highly recommend ordering fabric swatches before committing to a particular design and colour way.
As the saying goes – ‘measure twice, cut once (or in this case, buy once). Accurate measurements are key to ordering the correct meterage of fabric. Be sure to double-check your pattern or project dimensions to ensure you have enough. It’s always a good idea to add a little extra for seam allowances and potential errors too. Fabrics can vary between batches so not having enough and ordering more separately may affect the overall finish of your furnishings. For curtains and roman blinds, please refer to our measuring guides.
It’s also important to consider the fabric width. Fabric widths can differentiate significantly, with both standard and wide width options available. Some fabrics are designed to be railroaded, allowing the fabric to be turned to achieve wider widths, helping to eliminate the need for joins/seams. This will impact how much length you need to purchase, especially for wider projects like curtains.
Overview
Buying fabric by the metre is more than just a purchase; it’s an invitation to explore your creativity and bring your unique ideas to life. So, whether you’re planning small craft projects or a large-scale renovation, embrace the freedom and flexibility that comes with choosing your fabric by the metre.
