Considerations When Choosing a Little Greene Paint Colour

Giving your walls a fresh coat of paint is one of the most effective ways to completely transform the look and feel of a space. With so much choice on the market, choosing a paint colour may seem like a daunting task, but with some careful consideration, you can select the perfect shade to complement your décor and create the desired ambiance in your home.

First of all, consider the primary function of the room you plan to decorate. Calming and relaxing hues such as blues and greens lend themselves well to bedroom and bathroom settings, whilst warm and inviting tones can help to energise living rooms and kitchens. It’s all about focusing on the mood you want to create in line with your personality.

The amount of natural light a room receives also plays a significant role in paint colour selection. If a room has plenty of windows and ample natural light, you may wish to opt for bolder, darker shades. Conversely, rooms with limited natural light may benefit from lighter, brighter colours to create a sense of spaciousness and illumination. It’s also worth noting that the type of lighting in a room can also affect the appearance of a paint colour. Warm and cool artificial lighting will impact a colour differently, so it’s important to consider this when choosing your colour.

Equally, you should also take into account various features of the room. Room size, shape, ceiling height and architectural design can influence the way a colour works. In small spaces with lower ceilings, lighter tones can work well to create a spacious and airy feel, whilst darker colours will deliver a more cocooning effect. Furthermore, the colours, styles, patterns and placement of your existing furniture, flooring, and upholstery should be considered to avoid clashing.

Finally, the paint finish is one of the most important things to consider when choosing a colour. Delivering various levels of sheen, from a high gloss to a flat matt, each finish will reflect differently on the colour to deliver a different look.

The Home Of Interiors Recommendations

If you are considering some wallpaper and fabrics for your project, we would recommend choosing these first and then co-ordinating your paint colour(s) to the designs. This will make the process much easier to create a cohesive look.

We would also strongly recommend purchasing a sample pot before committing to a paint colour. Sample pots are available in every Little Greene colour and come in an absolute matt emulsion finish. Simply paint a large piece of lining paper or foam board in 2 coats of the sample, moving it around the room to see if the colour works for your environment. This way, you can see how the colour interacts with light and different elements of the room throughout the day and get a feel for if it’s right for you and your space. Please note, we do not recommend applying any samples directly to your walls as this will require extra prep work when it comes to decorating, particularly if you need to cover dark samples!
