INTRODUCTION TO CONTROL4

Considered an operating system of the home, Control4 home automation systems platform delivers control across a range of connected devices, integrating and managing nearly every device in the household.

It is able to integrate with products from a variety of different manufacturers at a more affordable price, making it one of the most cost effective control solutions on the market. It’s also the platform of choice for major consumer electronics companies, residential homes, businesses and utilities.

Control4 can connect and control devices including lights, appliances, security systems, thermostats, entertainment systems and more. These smart homes automation systems are powered by an on-premise Control4 Controller which acts as the brain of the operation. This is then connected to a network where all of the different devices are linked together.

The Control4 system centralises everything into one system and makes it accessible via an intelligent app, remote control or wall switch. It is intended to reduce the complexity of in-home technology and therefore has a user-friendly design which is easy to use.

INTRODUCTION TO CRESTRON

Crestron is a high-end luxury brand that brings a quality over quantity approach to smart homes, founded in 1971 by engineer George Feldstein in Rockleigh, New Jersey. They have been in the industry for almost 50 years and with that comes years of refinement, aptitude and innovation.

Crestron was working on audiovisual before home automation became so mainstream. Over the years they’ve evolved their offering into a full range of smart home possibilities.

The Crestron home automation system itself is highly complex and therefore requires an approved installer to properly install the home automation system. As a result of this complexity, more bespoke solutions are available when compared to Control4 or Savant for example.

Crestron is designed to cater to any smart home requirements and is the best smart home system for custom setups no matter how specific or creative they may be.

Crestron is notably more expensive than other brands too but this is because of the better quality hardware on offer, making it an extremely powerful option for smart home projects. Due to its complexity and custom programming capabilities, it does mean that a Crestron home automation system can take longer to install than other systems.

INTRODUCTION TO KNX

The demand for comfort and versatility in the management of heating, lighting and access control systems for a family home as well as an office complex is growing. At the same time, the efficient use of energy is becoming increasingly important. People want a comfortable, sustainable and safe place to live and work.

However, more convenience and safety together with lower energy consumption can only be achieved by intelligent control and monitoring of all products involved. This is a true challenge as it implies more wiring, running from the sensors and actuators to the control and monitoring centres. For professionals, such a mass of wiring also means higher design and installation efforts, increased fire risk and soaring costs. That’s where KNX jumps in.

Automation doesn’t have to be difficult. It simply requires a system that does away with the problems of isolated devices by ensuring that all components communicate via one common language. The kind of device you want to use doesn’t matter anymore.

All these functions work via an uniform system. This is called the principle of interworking. This is home and building control made easy. This is KNX.

INTRODUCTION TO LOXONE

Loxone is a versatile home automation and control solution suitable for various environments, including smart homes, offices, and hotels. With Loxone, a wide range of projects can be intelligently automated and controlled. The Loxone Miniserver serves as the central hub, connecting all components within your home, office, or any larger building into one cohesive ecosystem. From smart lighting to automatic climate control, Loxone provides solutions for diverse applications.

In a Loxone Smart Home, the system intuitively understands how to enhance your daily routines. Whether it’s morning or evening, during cooking, entertaining, or relaxation, the system orchestrates personalised experiences. It plays music in each room, creates the desired atmosphere with lighting moods, and ensures optimal room temperatures. Additionally, Loxone contributes to enhancing the energy efficiency of your home.

Regardless of the uniqueness of your project, Loxone offers high levels of automation as a customised building automation system. The intelligent Loxone Miniserver processes detailed logic, accommodating individual requirements seamlessly. Unlike other systems, Loxone does not store or process your data in a cloud. Sensitive information, such as the number of people at home, schedules, camera images from door intercom systems, alarm system status, etc., remains within your own premises.

INTRODUCTION TO LUTRON

Lutron Electronics designs and manufactures lighting control systems for both residential and commercial applications. The company offers a wide variety of light dimmers, whole-home and whole-building dimming systems, controllable window treatments and color matched accessories, including wallplates, receptacles, fan controls, and more. Benefits include energy saving, mobile app control, lighting customisation, keypad control, daylight automation, increased security and personalised home style.

Lutron is acknowledged throughout the lighting industry for its expansive product offerings, continued technological achievements, and stringent quality standards. Lutron has been recognised as the preferred brand by lighting designers and specifiers worldwide.

Lutron offers a wide variety of system packages that are split between building size, spec, and of course, user budget. At the entry-level, there’s the Radio RA2 automation system. This gives homeowners an impressive level of control and integration.

Lutron’s flagship home automation platform is HomeWorks, designed to offer a luxury lighting solution with almost endless programmable features. With HomeWorks there is a huge range of keypads, wireless controls, accessories, and the most advanced shades and blinds available.

INTRODUCTION TO RAKO

Rako is leading the way in providing state of the art digital dimming technology, providing innovative solutions to meet the needs of a diverse range of applications with lighting systems that are simple to use, creative, easily installed and cost effective. Designed and manufactured in the UK.

Mood lighting systems offer the user the ability to recall a scene, or mood of lighting, at the touch of a single button despite controlling multiple circuits and lamp types. Circuits are split to define zones and highlight room features and are programmed to suit the different uses of a space. Scene changes incorporate fade times giving subtle lighting transitions.

Push button systems allow two, or multi-way control and can be controlled from hand-held remotes or smartphones. Digital communication means system integration is easily achievable, linking lighting to audio-visual, security and building controllers, including control of curtains, blinds and screens.

Rako offers a number of installation options including wireless control for ease of installation and retro-fit applications. More complex projects may suit the wired network with centralised RAK units, or possibly combined systems giving a mix of both. The ability to offer wireless, wired or combined options means Rako can provide the best possible approach for any project and gives the safety net should cables be forgotten or extra wall-plates be needed after walls are sealed.
