Child safety solutions are evolving thanks to the inherently safe design of the Dual rise mechanism. Thanks to the intuitive operation of the Dual Rise system it’s been designed so anyone can operate the blind: pull the front to make the blind go up; pull the rear chain to make the blind go down eliminating the need for hazardous loops or chains.

The type of safety device selected will depend on how you are making up your roman blind.

If you are making the rod pockets from the roman blind material or the lining material then you will need to select the sew on safety devices.

If you are using a roman blind pocket tape then you will need to select the clip on safety devices.

One of the toggles is sewn / clipped on to the last point of the blind for each cord. The cord is threaded through the toggle and left un-knotted, allowing the cord to pull through the toggle if within 6kg of force is applied.

Two of the break away clips are required for each cord. One is sewn / clipped on to the last point of the blind, the other to the penultimate pocket. You may either knot the cord to the bottom clip or for easier adjustment you could have a standard toggle positioned after the bottom clip with the cord knotted after the toggle, to ensure that the toggle and clips do not slide off the cord in the event of a break.

If you select the child safety device option whilst specifying the product online, we will supply two breakaway clips and a standard toggle per cord.  If you prefer to use a different configuration then these devices can be shopped from our range of workroom essentials here.

These systems are sold in their component parts as kits to allow you to specify and make your own roman blinds.  It is ultimately your responsibility to ensure the finished roman blind complies with the legislation using the safety devices correctly.

If you are upgrading an existing roman blind to a new headrail, or are new to roman blinds, read our blog post on how to attach the roman blind fabric to the headrail, or watch our YouTube video that explains the process.
