We love The Little Greene Wallpaper range; the stories, history and provenance behind the designs are fascinating. The designs themselves are truly stunning and will make a real design statement in any room.
The Thames Wallpaper design is part of Little Greene’s 19th Century Wallpaper range. The 1800s were a key period in the evolution of wallpaper production. During this century, the introduction of continuous paper reels from France, and subsequently roller-printing in 1840, replaced the traditional techniques by which individual rolls (called ‘pieces’) were printed by hand. The flamboyant, decorative style of the Regency Period championed the use of wallpaper. In particular, a fashion for striped wallpapers emerged as they became commercially available; a direct result of this era’s innovative production methods.
Faithfully reproduced, but increased in scale, this historical panorama of the capital was published by The London Illustrated News in 1851. This hand drawn, hand painted scene depicts the buildings and landscape along the River Thames at the time and has been remastered to include a repeating section meaning it can be hung on any size wall. The original would have been shown at cornice height, but in rooms of a more normal scale (it has been created to sit comfortably at dado or skirting height as well).
Complementing paint colours include:
French Grey Dark (163), French Grey Pale (161), Portland Stone (77), Perennial Grey (245), Slaked Lime Mid (149), Sage Green (80), Kitchen Green (85), Pearl Colour Pale (167), Lead Colour (117), French Grey (113)
Please note Little Greene wallpapers are guaranteed only when hung using Little Greene’s Ready Mixed Wallpaper Paste (please see accessories below). Its high-quality, starch-based formulation provides good initial tack and excellent slip, for precise positioning when hanging Little Greene’s high-grade base papers (both paste-the-paper and paste-the-wall – please see product specification tab for details). Easy to use; no mixing required. 2.5kg and 5kg tubs available. A 2.5kg tub will hang approximately 3 standard rolls of wallpaper.
