Jones Strand 35mm Oak Curtain Poles
The Jones Strand 35mm oak curtain pole range is one of our best selling ranges. It is a brand we highly recommend as it offers exceptional quality at fantastic prices with stylish finial designs. The oak poles are a mid oak in colour and complement other oak furnishings such as wooden floors and contemporary oak doors.
Curtain Pole Contents
This Jones Strand 35mm Oak Curtain Pole comes with pole(s), brackets (7cm, 11cm or ceiling fix), rings (if specified) and two Cage Ball Finials. We offer a cut to size service on the Jones Strand pole range. Co-ordinating holdbacks and draw rods are also available. Draw rods are a popular accessory as they enable you to open and close your curtains without touching them. Please note draw rods are not compatible with eyelet curtains. The Jones holdbacks look very stylish when used as a tieback hook with one of the Jones tiebacks.
Bracket Advice
The standard wall fix brackets are available with a 7cm or 11cm projection which is the measurement from the wall to the middle of the pole. If you have eyelet curtains you may wish to consider the 11cm brackets as these project further away from the wall, ensuring room for the eyelet folds. The 11cm brackets are also useful if you would like your pencil pleat or pinch pleat curtains to sit further away from the wall, which can be helpful if you have a radiator underneath the window or a deep windowsill. The 7cm brackets will reduce light ingress around the edges of the curtains and will help to retain more heat as the curtains will sit closer to the walls.
Ceiling fix brackets are also available (please note the ceiling fix bracket isn’t suitable for eyelet curtains as the bracket stem isn’t long enough for an eyelet heading). If you are looking for a ceiling fix option for an eyelet curtain please consider the Neo 35mm oak range. Extra brackets, recess brackets and passing brackets are available in the Jones Strand range should you require these. Passing brackets are recommended on longer pole lengths to offer additional support. Please note passing brackets are only compatible with the 11cm standard bracket and for curtain headings that require rings (as eyelet curtains cannot passover the passing brackets).
6m length for Heavyweight Curtains
If you order the 6m length for heavyweight curtains you will receive 2 x 300cm poles with a joining screw, 3 x standard 11cm brackets (1 for each end and 1 for the centre of the pole), 2 passing brackets (to offer additional support along each of the 300cm poles), a pair of finials, 1 pack of standard rings and 9 packs of passover rings.

Poles up to and including 300cm are supplied as a single pole. Poles over 300cm are supplied in 2 pieces with a joining screw to connect the 2 poles. The join will be concealed by the centre bracket.

If you are looking for a smaller diameter pole we would recommend the Jones Lunar 28mm oak curtain pole range. There is also a metal pole available in the Jones Strand range.
Curtain Heading Recommendations
These curtain poles are suitable for all curtain heading types, however for a smoother draw eyelet curtains are better suited to a metal curtain pole.
If you are considering readymade curtains, standard eyelets are 40mm in diameter and for a smoother draw are better suited to a curtain pole up to 32mm in diameter. The curtains will fit onto a 35mm curtain pole but you may need to help your curtains along the pole. This isn’t a problem for dress curtains or curtains that are only drawn occasionally. Made to measure eyelet curtains can be specified with a 50mm eyelet which is better suited to a 35mm curtain pole.
Curtain headings that require curtain rings such as a pencil pleat, pinch pleat or other gathered headings, are a more popular choice on a wooden curtain pole. Readymade curtains are only suitable for curtain poles up to 360cm. If you require curtains to fit a wider pole, or you have a drop longer than the standard readymade drops made to measures curtains are the perfect choice.
Measuring Guide for a Curtain Pole:
Decide where the pole is to be positioned. This is usually above the window with the pole extending either side beyond the window.
Step 1: Measure the width of your window.
Step 2: The chart below provides guidance for making an allowance either side of your window for your curtain stack (shown as ‘B’ on the diagram above). This is particularly important if you want the curtains to clear the glazing when open. Please note the curtain heading, fabric thickness and lining specification will affect the width of the stack back. How much you would like the curtains to clear the window is down to personal preference. The chart below is however a good guide.
Step 3: Add the width of your window onto the B measurement (x2 for a pair of curtains) to give you a finished pole length (A).
Please note this is just a guide so we recommend choosing the pole length available within your preferred curtain pole range that best suits your requirements. All poles can be cut to size with a junior hacksaw. We offer a cut to size service on the Jones Handcrafted range.
