Roman blinds are a popular window dressing adding texture and warmth to your room. Inside a window recess, as the fabric sits close to the glazing, a blind can help to retain heat in your room, enhancing energy efficiency. Layering a roman blind with curtains is a popular choice to add dimension and deliver a sophisticated look.
Why Choose Roman blinds?
Roman blinds are made from curtain fabric and have a softer, more relaxed look and feel than many other styles of blinds.
Unlike curtains roman blinds require very little space around the window so offer a great solution if you have a radiator underneath a windowsill, or if you have furniture close to the edges of the window.
Can be fitted either inside or outside the window recess.
You may wish to co-ordinate your roman blind at one window with curtains in the same fabric at another window.
If you have a radiator underneath a windowsill you may wish to consider a roman blind instead of, or as well as dress curtains so you don’t lose the heat from the radiator when the curtains are closed and cover the radiator.
Roman blinds also work well layered with a roller blind. A popular option is to position a roller blind inside your window recess to offer privacy or some blackout properties, with a softer, more relaxed roman blind outside the recess.
Most curtain fabrics are also suitable for roman blinds so can co-ordinate with your other soft furnishings.

Motorised Roman Blinds – Powered by Somfy
Our roman blinds can be powered by Somfy motors, the world leader in motorised blinds products. A range of remote handsets, wireless wall switches and timers are available to provide your preferred powered blind control option. The motor on this blind can be powered by a selection of 12Vdc power supplies:
Lithium battery pack.
Li-ion rechargeable battery pack (battery charger sold separately).
Solar pack.
Mains plug in power adapter.
You can specify your preferences when ordering your blind. We also offer the option of adding wall switches or a remote control to your order.

Please download our measuring guide for advice on measuring so that your roman blinds are made to your required size. When ordering you can choose between a manual ball chain operation, or for the blind to be motorised. If you opt for a manual operation, a metal chrome or plastic white chain can be specified and you can choose which side the chain goes on. To ensure the chain meets the child safety legislation please advise the installation height of your blind. This is the measurement from the top of your blind to the floor. If the installation height is not known the chain length will be ⅔ of the blind drop. You can also specify your lining and choose between a standard, thermal or blackout lining. Co-ordinating cushions can also be added to your order for a finishing touch.

Choosing the power supply for your electric roman blind
You have several options available to you when selecting your blind power supply:
Mains adaptor Somfy Mains Plug-In Power Pack is a simple plug-in power pack that provides a dedicated power feed to the motorised blind. The power pack plugs into a standard mains socket outlet, with the supply cable connecting directly with the motor. This solution will require a socket outlet within 3M of the motorised blind.
Rechargeable Li-ion battery pack (standard option) Rechargeable Li-ion battery pack for a Somfy WireFree powered blind. The rechargeable Li-ion battery pack simply connects to the motor to provide the power supply. Once the battery power expires, simply disconnect from the motor, charge back up and reconnect for continued operation. (NOTE: Battery charger supplied separately.)
Battery pack Somfy lithium battery pack for WireFree motorised blind. This battery pack comprises of – a Somfy reloadable battery tube – 8 x AA lithium batteries – Supplied with battery tube mounting clips.
Solar pack The compact Somfy solar panel is designed to fit behind the blind on the inner window pane and continually charge the battery during daylight. The 12V rechargeable battery pack connects to the solar panel with simple plug in connector. The battery supply cable then plugs into the motor to make the power connection complete. This solar pack comprises of: – Solar panel – Somfy reloadable NiMH battery tube – 10 x AA NiMH rechargeable batteries – Adhesive strips to secure the solar panel to the inner window pane – Battery mounting clips.
No Power Supply Warning: only select this option if you already have a Somfy Power Supply Your electric blind will not operate if you do not have a power supply connected to the motor.
Caring for your Made to Measure Roman Blinds
Please unpack your blinds as soon as you can once they have been delivered. There may be creasing or some pressure marks on the blinds. These will normally fall out quickly after lowering and hanging the blind in a warm room.
Alternatively, the blinds may be lightly ironed with a warm dry iron on the reverse side (please do not use any steam). Hems and sides should never be pressed. Steam and excessive pressure or temperature should be avoided as these can stretch or shrink the fabric.
Fabric Samples
We are delighted to be offering free of charge fabric swatches on all our Express Service fabrics. Simply add fabric swatches of your favourite fabric(s) to your basket and checkout in the normal way. Swatches will be sent out on the same working day via Royal Mail so should be delivered in 2-3 days.
As our Express made to measure products are made to order and are therefore non returnable, we would recommend samples are ordered prior to ordering your curtains, blinds or cushions to double check the fabric is right for you.

We offer a range of lining options for you to choose from:
Lined – to enhance the drape of your curtains we specify a sateen twill lining which is 70% polyester / 30% cotton in ivory. This is an off white / light cream colour. A standard lining will help to protect your curtains from sun damage and prolong the life of your curtains.
Thermal – our thermal lining has a 1 pass coating to not only block sunlight, but also to offer thermal and sound insulation properties, helping to conserve energy and dampen noise. This lining is 65% polyester and 35% cotton and is available in ivory, which is soft cream colour.
Blackout – blackout linings not only stop light from flooding into a room but also offer thermal properties helping to conserve energy. They also help to absorb sound so can improve the acoustics in a room. Our blackout lining is available in white or cream and is 100% polyester.

Whilst we will endeavour to fulfil our delivery promises once the goods leave our warehouse we do rely on 3rd parties to fulfil their obligations. We therefore recommend that a fitter or decorator isn’t booked until the goods are safely in your hands and have been checked for damage and any missing items. We cannot be held responsible for any fitter or decorator cancellations.

To reduce the likelihood of having to return a product, we do recommend paint sample pots, wallpaper and fabric swatches are ordered prior to ordering the full sized items.
