Client Brief
A local client came to us for some window dressing recommendations for their beautiful new open plan living extension. Given the large amount of glazing, they were looking for ways to bring some warmth into the room in a way that complemented the contemporary style of the space.
Curtain Track Solution
Initially, we discussed a bent track for this project but due to the bend radius of the track, we thought a tight 90 degree corner would be better with 2 independent tracks that would allow the curtains to meet in the corner.
As the client was at the building stage of their project when they approached us, we recommended the Silent Gliss 6243 recess track to deliver a chic floor to ceiling look for the curtains. We worked with the builders on optimum straight track lengths and track positioning to ensure the tracks were positioned so the curtains wouldn’t rub on the bi-fold door handles, there was enough space for the wave curtain folds and that the curtain would meet neatly in the corner.
Curtain Heading
To complement the modern kitchen design and sophisticated styling of their extension, we suggested the popular wave curtains heading with the 80mm spacing. This would deliver the slimmest stack back possible to help ensure as much of the glazing is retained as possible.
To keep the symmetry along the opening bi-fold doors, we also recommended a pair of curtains along this stretch of glazing, complemented with a single right hand curtain on the adjacent glazing panels. These panels don’t open so we didn’t need to consider access.
Fabrics
As the room is east facing and not over-looked, privacy and shading requirements were not essential to this project. We first discussed voiles with the client but they felt they wanted a thicker, natural look fabric to add warmth to the space whilst still letting the light in. This in mind, we suggested an unlined semi-sheer fabric which is a really popular choice across bi-fold doors and large expanses of glazing. This would help to retain light and airy feel.
After sending a variety of samples to our client, they opted for the Prestigious Textiles Whisp fabric in the limestone colour-way. This wide width, linen-look sheer is a stunning choice, providing a lovely natural weave and texture that can help balance the textures within the room and deliver a cosy feel at night. The soft cream colour of the fabric also beautifully complements the cream sofa and works really well with their olive green wall colouring and existing furnishings for a cohesive finish.
Overview
Our client is thrilled with the end result. The wave curtains finish off their extension beautifully, bringing warmth and cosiness to our client’s stylish interior scheme. Both the curtain fabric and tracks also deliver a seamless look, working effortlessly to offset the contemporary style of space for a touch of hotel chic and sophistication.
